Sardinia’s Secrets 2024

A motorcycle journey into the island of unspoilt nature and millenary traditions. By September big crowds and unbearable heat are gone, opening it all up for us and our motorcycles to enjoy completely. Starting from Cagliari, where the waiters are a good laugh and the food is to die for, we will embark on a true discovery of the most beautiful and at times remote Sardinia. Everything is in the cards with this trip. From mountain roads immersed in fragrant Mediterranean vegetation with granite rocks on one side and vast breath-taking views on the other, to coastal roads framed by white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, we will experience and touch it all by hand. Expect awesome riding, dreamy swimming, unique hotels, simple towns, warm hospitality, comedy, and even ghost mining towns. This island is vast and by western standards largely untouched, and we will dive right into its heart. Needless to say, this journey will be a feast of amazing local delicacies like the suckling pig (sometimes cooked buried underground), fresh seafood and of course the Pecorino cheese (Sardinian Pecorino is an assurance!).

The route

Via the most enjoyable and picturesque coastal and mountain routes, we will ride west from Cagliari, and then cross the heart of the island before returning south along the coast.

DAY 1 (23/09) 60 km: ‘WELCOME TO CAGLIARI’

Airport pickup (Cagliari) - hotel check in - discover your chosen bike ready to go - trip briefing - panoramic warm up ride - dinner and sleep in Cagliari.

DAY 2 (24/09) 150 km: ‘INTO THE SULCIS REGION’

Leaving Cagliari and the Santa Gilla laguna, we’ll head west via the beautiful costal roads and beaches of the Sulcis region, riding by the charming Chia beach and Porto Pino, where we’ll stop for a swim and lunch. In the afternoon we’ll visit the ancient town of Tratalias before reaching our hotel back on the coast.

DAY 3 (25/09) 200 km: ‘TO THE MINERARY ANCIENT ROUTES’

We will pick up the rhythm to enjoy the best beaches and mountains of the most important area of Sardinian industrial archaeology. The incredible panoramic road hanging off the coastal cliffs will take us though Nebida and the iconic ‘Pan di Zucchero’ (the highest sea rock of Europe) for a marvellous coffee stop by the sea. We’ll then continue via the ghost town of Montevecchio and descend back onto the beautiful Costa Verde where we’ll stop for lunch and the optional swim. In the afternoon we will move back towards the centre of the island filled with countless mythological Nuraghe (ancient stone structures dating back to 1900 BC), and chill after a long riding day at a beautiful farmhouse hotel.

DAY 4 (26/09) 165 km: ‘INTO THE HEART OF THE MOUNTAINS’

This will be a glorious day of riding curvy mountain roads with spectacular views. Crossing the Barbagia region, often referred to as the harsh and wild heart of this timeless island, we’ll ride by a number of unique towns like Orgosolo, once a refuge for outlaws and today known for its houses covered by large artful graffiti of local artists, as well as Mamoiada, where the most famous Sardinian folk masks are produced. We’ll end the day near the west coast at the charming mountainside town Dorgali, where we will lodge at unique old apartments for two nights.

DAY 5 (27/09) 180 km: ‘CAPO COMINO AND GALLURA’

This will be a day of rest or ride to the beach and mountains. If you choose to ride, we’ll head toward the coast and the picturesque Orosei, then to the white dunes and crystal-clear waters of Capo Comino, where we’ll stop for lunch and an optional swim. Moving inland and towards the mountains again, we’ll ride into the heart of the Gallura region, passing vineyards and ancient forests populated by centenary oaks famous for their bark. Back in Dorgali we will indulge in an authentic culinary feast.

DAY 6 (28/09) 195 km: ‘THE EASTERN ROUTE’

Our last riding day will be a true rider’s dream. Immediately out of Dorgali we’ll hit the SS125 East taking us into the Supramonte Mountain range and its wonderful endless sceneries of valleys and peaks, all the way down to a remote and wild beach where we’ll stop for a cooling swim and a great fish lunch. Continuing onto fun and flowy roads, we’ll arrive back in Cagliari to celebrate the end of an epic trip with a final dinner party in the middle of the old Cagliari.
